Missoni

The company was founded in 1953 when Ottavio and Rosita Missoni opened a small knitwear workshop in Gallarate , Italy . They presented their first collection under the Missoni brand in Milan in 1958 . The brand flourished with the support of fashion editor Anna Piaggi , and then in Arianna magazine.

Rosita met the French stylist Emmanuel Khan in New York in 1965, which led to collaboration and the creation of a new collection next year.

In April 1967, they were invited to show the collection at the Pitti Palace in Florence . Rosita told the models to remove their bras , presumably because they were the wrong color, and showed thin blouses from the llama . The material became transparent under the light and caused a sensation . Missoni was not invited the following year, but the business grew. Designers Missoni defended in the United States Diana Vreeland , editor of the American Vogue, and with her participation, the brand was shown in New York . Collections appeared in 1968 at Bloomingdales Department Store. The first knitwear factory was opened in Sumirago in 1969.

In 1976 , the first monobrand boutique "Missoni" was opened in Milan .

In 1979 , the men's brand line was launched.

Missoni reached the peak of her influence in the fashion world in the early 1970s. Then Tai Missoni became more interested in other projects, designing costumes for La Scala , carpets and tapestries . Rosita Missoni lost interest in fashion in the 1990s, and in 1998, her daughter Angela replaced her, while Rosita was involved in the Missoni Home campaign. ^[one]

On September 13, 2011, Missoni briefly hit the headlines when Target Stores offered inexpensive Missoni products in their stores and on their website. Most of the products were sold out within 24 hours, there were long lines outside the stores, and the target website was overloaded. Some products appeared on eBay at a higher price within a few hours, and Target did not update them. ^[2]

In 2017, Jennifer Lopez and Missoni teamed up with the Women's Cancer Research Foundation and Saks Fifth Avenue to fundraise for cancer analysis. Lopez helps advertise Missoni limited edition tees of $ 35 , and profits go to 12 different charities to fight the disease . ^[3]

Missoni's brands include Missoni Sport , which was originally licensed and commissioned in January 2002 and is currently discontinued. In 1998, the new M Missoni line was launched, which is produced and distributed by Marzotto.

"Missoni Home" has its roots in furniture fabrics, released in 1981 in collaboration with the family-owned company Rosita.

The brand launched its first perfume in 1982 . The license is currently owned by Estée Lauder .

In November 2005, Missoni and the Rezidor Hotel Group signed an agreement to establish the Missoni Hotel. ^[four]

In the summer of 2009 , the brand opened its first five-star hotel "Hotel Missoni Edinburgh" in Edinburgh , Scotland , at 1 George IV Bridge . The hotel agreement was terminated in 2014.

In 2017 , Missoni Baia , Missoni's first residential development venture, opened its way to Miami , Florida . A complex of 249 units will be completed by the end of 2020. ^[5]

In 1996, Ottavio and Rosita Missoni transferred control of the business to their three children: Vittorio Missoni was director of marketing (until 2013), Luca was a designer of men's clothing (until 2008), Angela was a designer of women's clothing and was engaged in men 's clothing after Luca (until 2014) when he became responsible for the archive and events. Margarita Missoni designed accessories and models for Missoni. Today, she runs her own line of children's clothing, which is in no way associated with the brand.

Since 2014, Rossella Giardini , a former Moschino fashion house designer, has become Missoni’s creative director . ^[6]
