The general elections in Guatemala were held on March 5, 1978 [1] . In the presidential election, none of the candidates won more than 50% of the vote and Fernando Romeo Lucas Garcia was elected president on March 13 after a vote in Congress . In the parliamentary elections, the National Liberation Movement won, winning 20 of the 61 seats of Congress.
