History
For a long time, the studio was owned by Jim David (son of the poet Hal David ) [2] . The studio became famous as the premise for creating the “best drum sound in Los Angeles” and was highly regarded in music circles after recording the Metallica album of the same name , also known as The Black Album , which received 16-fold platinum status [3] .
The studio premises appear in the documentary about the creation of The Black Album - “A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica” [4] .
Such famous albums as ... And Justice for All (Metallica), When the Pawn ... were recorded in this studio ( Fiona Apple ), Crazy Nights and Psycho Circus ( KISS ), as well as Dirt ( Alice in Chains ).
The popularity of the studio aroused interest among Japanese rock musician Yoshiki Hayashi , drummer of the heavy metal band X Japan . He tried to book a studio for recording material, but received an answer that he would have to wait more than a year due to the long list of reserved places. As a result, Yoshiki bought the studio in 1993, turning it into his private recording studio and subsequently renaming it as Extasy Recording Studio [5] .
In 2012, 17 Hertz LLC bought the studio space by purchasing new equipment and renaming it 17 Hertz Studio .
