Christopher Gore Penny ( born Christopher Gore Penny ; born , ) is an American rower who played for the US rowing team in the 1980s. Silver medalist at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics , bronze medalist at the World Championships, champion of the Goodwill Games in Moscow and the Pan American Games in Caracas , winner and medalist at many national regattas.

Biography

Christopher Penny was born on May 4, 1962 in Morristown , New Jersey .

He was engaged in rowing while studying at Princeton University , was a member of the local rowing team, and repeatedly participated in various student regattas. Then he studied at St. Johns College, Oxford University, where he was also a member of the rowing team.

He made his international debut in the 1981 season, when he joined the American national team and performed at the youth regatta in Essen, where he took the fourth place in the standings of the oar steering fours.

In 1983, he won the Eights at the Pan American Games in Caracas .

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1984 1984 Summer Home Olympics in Los Angeles . As part of the crew of eight, he came to the finish line second, losing only to the team from Canada in the decisive race, and thereby won the silver Olympic medal.

After the Los Angeles Olympics, Penny remained part of the US rowing team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1985, he attended the World Championships in Hazewinkel , from where he brought the bronze dignity award won in eights.

In 1986, in the eights he was the best at the Goodwill Games in Moscow .

As a representative of the University of Oxford, in 1987, along with several other American rowers, refused to participate in the traditional Oxford-Cambridge regatta in protest against the methods of work of team coach Daniel Topolski . At the same time, after a year he nevertheless took part in this regatta [1] .
