The general election in Guatemala took place on March 1, 1970. [1] In the presidential election, none of the candidates won more than 50% of the vote, so Carlos Manuel Arana Osorio was elected president on March 21 by voting in Congress . In the parliamentary elections, the Alliance for National Liberation Movement , the Institutional Democratic Party , won 32 of the 55 seats in Congress. Voter turnout was 53.82% in the presidential and 53.26% in the parliamentary elections.
