Asymmetry
Asymmetry - Lisa Holliday's first novel, for which she won the Award for Fiction. Roman is also on the list of works on the CWS Leaderboard. The English original edition was published by Simon & Schuster in February 2018. The German translation was published by Karl Hanser Verlag.
The novel contains two stories: the first part of the novel tells the love story of a young Alice and an elderly writer and Nobel candidate Ezra Blazer. The second part describes the situation with Kafka’s interrogations, in which Amar, an American-Iraqi graduate student, ends up at a London airport.
Asymmetry in the novel can be detected in both substantive and formal aspects:
“A female story in the third person is accompanied by a male one in the first. In a series of impressionist photographs taken with ease and timeliness, the melancholy autobiographical reflections of the gap between the United States and Iraq follow a completely different tone.” [2]
