Etymology
The generic name is based on the Latin name for stone oak ( Quercus ilex ). The specific epithet was given in honor of the French botanist Jean-Nicolas Boulet [2] .
Study History
Leaf prints are known from the Roschess commune of the Ardèche department, located in the central part of the south of France [2] .
In 1887, Jean-Nicolas Boulet described a species called Ilex undulata [2] .
In a study published in 2019, a systematic Russian botanist, Alexander Borisovich Doweld, drew attention to the fact that the name given to Boule had already been used earlier in describing another kind of holly , and changed it to Ilex boulayi [2] .
The holotype of the species Doweld could not be found [2] .
