Thomas Nisbit "Tom" Kiefer ( born Thomas Nisbit "Tom" Kiefer ; born , ) is an American rower who played for the US rowing team in the period 1975 —1986 Silver medalist at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics , three-time bronze medalist at the World Championships, champion of the Goodwill Games, winner of the silver medal of the Pan American Games, winner and medalist of many regattas of national importance.

Biography
Thomas Kiefer was born on February 25, 1958 in Sharon , Connecticut .
He was engaged in rowing while studying at Northeastern University , was a local rowing team, repeatedly participated in various student regattas, in particular, in 1981 he won bronze medals at the Eastern Sprints and Intercollegiate Rowing Association regattas. Subsequently, entered the University Sports Hall of Fame. He also trained at the Penn Athletic Club in Philadelphia .
He first made himself known as rowing in the international arena in 1975, playing in the eights at the junior world championship in Montreal. A year later, at similar competitions in Villach, he won a bronze medal in oar steering deuces.
The first serious success at the adult international level was achieved in the 1979 season, when he joined the main team of the American national team and attended the Pan American Games in San Juan , from where he brought the silver dignity award won in steering deuces.
In 1981, he won the eighth bronze medal at the World Championships in Munich .
At the 1982 world championships in Lucerne, he could not get into the number of winners, he finished fourth in the eighth finals.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1984 1984 Summer Home Olympics in Los Angeles . In the program of oar steering fours he came to the finish line second, having missed forward only the crew from the UK, and thereby won the silver Olympic medal.
After the Los Angeles Olympics, Kiefer remained part of the US rowing team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1985, he performed at the World Championships in Hasevinkel , where he again became a bronze medalist in eights.
In 1986 he added to the track record a bronze award received in eights at the world championship in Nottingham . In addition, this season he won the same discipline at the Goodwill Games in Moscow . Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end his sports career.
Subsequently, he was engaged in coaching, worked as a manager in a large transport company in Boston . Married, has four children [1] .
