- On July 5, Newton published his main work, The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy , in London, which constituted an era in the history of physics. In three volumes of the book, Newton described the law of gravity and the three fundamental laws of mechanics , gave the theory of motion of the moon, planets and comets. Newton's approach has become the foundation of physics for many years.
- Pierre Varignon published The Project of New Mechanics , where he gave an exact formulation of the law of the parallelogram of forces , developed the concept of the moment of forces, and deduced a theorem that got his name.
