Biography
Hikmat Rizo was born on November 30, 1894 in the village of Yonakhsh, located in the southeastern part of modern Tajikistan (Obi Garm). His father was a woodcarver , designed mosques , was a master of musical instruments ( dombra , big dutar , tambour ), he loved to sing gazelles (the philosophical and poetic genre of Tajik - Persian classical poetry), rubyas (quatrains) and nyats (religious chants in which praised by the prophet ). As a singer, he was often invited to various events traditional for the rural community. Hikmata’s mother, Rizo Oisamo, was engaged in a traditional craft for women of that time - weaving carbos (a type of traditional fabric), as well as composing poems and reading them to children in the evenings.
In the Hikmat Rizo family, as in many other traditional Tajik families, for a long time there was a musical and poetic tradition of singing, composing poetry, playing folk musical instruments. In his family, Ziyo's older brother was a famous singer and performer on the dutar. From an early age, Hikmat began to listen to fairy tales about the heroes from his mother, studied dastans about heroes fighting for the freedom, independence and happiness of the people. He received his first skills in performing the epic “Gurugli” from his fellow countryman, the narrator Holi Musofir.
