Insects on postage stamps - one of the topics for collecting stamps , the name of one of the subsections of the thematic collection of postage stamps . Insects are depicted on stamps in many countries. This thematic category is unusually wide, because it includes almost the entire variety of insect species that live on planet Earth : butterflies are depicted on postage stamps of many countries of the world, as well as various beetles , bees and other insects. The possibilities of modern printing make it possible to make miniatures on postage stamps in a very high quality and color, so that the insects on them look unusually realistic [1] . In addition, topics related to insects appeared, for example, the “program to eradicate mosquitoes from the 1960s”, as well as graphic drawings based on insects [2] . Many stamps depict butterflies, which to a large extent contributed to the identification of another theme of collecting [3] .
In the thematic philately in the fauna section of the philately, insects on stamps began to appear much later than other large and more attractive animals . The first postage stamp with the image of a beetle was issued in 1948 in Chile in memory of the naturalist Claude Ge , whose main scientific work was devoted to Chile: Historia física y política de Chile [4] . Since then, insects have become popular items in the philately. Only during 1953-1969, about 100 postage stamps depicting beetles were issued in the world. In most cases, protected, aesthetically appealing views served as objects for creating postal miniatures. However, some brands show pests. In some cases, due to an overly simplified or stylized drawing, it is difficult to determine what kind is depicted on the brand [5] .

Comments
- ↑ Commemorative stamps - the generalized name of special art (commemorative, anniversary and other) postage stamps. To simplify the terminology in cases where it is only necessary to emphasize that this brand is not commonly used (that is, standard), the term “commemorative brand” means, in addition to the above, also thematic stamps (the drawings of which are dedicated to a certain collection topic). Also, all the mentioned stamps, united by the term “commemorative”, have a common feature: as a rule, such stamps are made at a high printing level [6] .
