History of the Manor
The manor was founded by the headman of the Kexholm County Magnus von Nieroth ( Magnus von Nieroth ) probably in the years 1620-1630 (during the Swedish rule ) [1] . The lands of several Estonian villages were presented to him on June 20, 1621 by the King of Sweden, Gustav II Adolf , and the manor was named the then village of Väätsa, becoming its center. [one]
In the hands of von Nirodov, the manor remained until 1686 , when Anna Elisabeth von Nieroth laid it to Klaus Johann von Baranoff , who later bought the manor. The manor was owned by the noble family of Baranoff for almost two centuries. [one]
Somewhere in the 18th century (or even at the end of the 17th century), the center of the manor was first rebuilt in a representative form. At that time, on the terraces located at different heights, a symmetrical baroque park was created (the so-called French park), at one end of which the main building (manor house) of the manor was supposedly erected (currently there is a mound cellar ), and at the other end - a pond with a round island. During the construction of a new building, one preserved inner door was used from the old manor house.
On May 4, 1870, the manor was bought by Karl Johann von Seydlitz , and it remained the property of the Seidlitz family until nationalization in 1919 ; its last owner was Johann Anton von Seydlitz [1] .

Main Building
The current main building of the manor in the style of early classicism was built in 1796 - 1800 . It is a stone house with a high basement and a hip roof . Both the front and rear facades have a central risalit with a triangular pediment . Around the whole building is a notched cornice . On the outer corners - rounded ledges. The layout of the rooms is asymmetrical. The rooms in the center of the back of the house are decorated with ionic pilasters both inside and out. [2]
In 1925, a local school moved to the main building of the manor, which still works in it. In the 1970s, a three-story extension was added to the building, which partially hides its original front facade. [1] [2]
The manor building was restored in three stages. At first, the original tiled roof was restored, in 2002 - a stylish main hall with a mirrored ceiling, where only one of the three columns destroyed during school hours was restored. The third and most thorough restoration was carried out at the expense of the Kingdom of Norway in 2010-2011 , during which the entire remaining part of the building was renovated. The facades were restored to their almost original form (later plaster was eliminated by spraying), the previously installed plastic windows were replaced with wooden windows close to the original form. A small balcony was added in the center of the rear facade. In the interiors, the central corridor previously added to the main floor was liquidated, which dismembered several of the original hall rooms; the enfilade of the premises was also restored. In several rooms of the main floor, the frieze and ceiling paintings were cleaned and partially restored. [one]
The main manor house, along with school needs, is also used for various celebrations and conferences.
Park
A large part of the Baroque manor park has survived, including terraces and a pond located at different heights. The park was put in order in 2010-2011; during these works, a bridge was built to the island on the pond, and on the island - a park pavilion in the style of classicism [1] .
The manor park was entered in the State Register of Cultural Monuments of Estonia (when inspected on July 23, 2018, it was in poor condition) [3] . A park fence with arched gates was also entered in the register (during inspection on April 6, 2017, it was in poor condition) [4] .
Manor complex
In addition to the main building on the manor at different times, several auxiliary (household) buildings were erected. They were scattered and were not oriented either to the main building or to its entrance area.
In the years when the Seidlitz family owned the manor, a vodka factory was built in the southeast of the manor park, which has now been destroyed. The modified livestock yard has been preserved in a modified form. The heavily remodeled barn and horse carriage — the stable — have also survived. The rest of the buildings erected at that time were destroyed, including a Dutch-style windmill and a threshing floor .
On collective farm time, the manor's farmyard was rebuilt into warehouses . From the wooden house of the L-shaped manager , located between the park and the river, a short wing was preserved, and a long one - parallel to the river - was demolished. [one]
The horse carriage was rebuilt in the 1980s into a guest house . In this regard, the appearance of the building was partially changed, but the original arched windows that had disappeared by the barn in the 1920s and 1930s were still preserved. Now the guest house “Vana Tall” [5] is working in the building.
Along with the main manor building [2] , the following buildings of the manor complex are included in the State Register of Estonian Cultural Monuments:
- farmyard: a complex of farm buildings in the historicism style, consisting of three wings surrounding the courtyard, and a fence made of rubble stone ; during inspection on March 19, 2019 was in disrepair [6] ;
- Barn: a one-story long building with a facade of plastered rubble stone, covered with a gable roof ; built in the second half of the 19th century; during the inspection on July 6, 2016 was in poor condition [7] .
