Biography

Prior to World War II, Isaac Greenfeld represented the Maccabi Chess Club in Lodz. In the late 1930s, he regularly participated in the Lodz chess championships. In 1938, in Krakow, he shared the 3rd - 4th place in the Polish Chess Championship. After the war, six times (1946-1953) participated in the Polish chess championships. In 1946, in Sopot, he achieved his best result in these tournaments by dividing the 3rd - 4th place ( Bogdan Plum won). [1] In 1950, he took part in the international chess tournament in Szczawno-Zdroj , in which he took 18th place ( Paul Keres won ). [2] In 1952, at the international chess tournament in Miedzyzdroje, he shared 15th - 16th place. In the same year, he represented the national team of Poland at the Chess Olympiad in Helsinki and in the individual competition won a silver medal on a spare board. It should be noted that Isaac Grinfeld got into the national team only due to the exclusion of many leading, but for the then authorities unreliable chess players (such as Kazimierz Makarchik ) from the team.

In 1954 he changed his name and surname to Ignacy Branicki ( Polish. Ignacy Branicki ), and also issued 1920 for the year of his birth, and in 1958 he emigrated from Poland to Israel. Until 1970, he lived a lot of time in the Netherlands, where he participated in local tournaments, and in 1959 he won the Netherlands open chess championship. [3] [4] He played his last known game in chess tournaments in 1992. Reliable information is lacking about his future fate. [5] [6]
