Biography
Even before he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts , he was engaged in architectural practice, so that, having stayed there only a year, he already received, on December 28, 1832, the title of non-class artist, and on September 30, 1838 he was already elevated to the rank of academician for the "project of the art museum . " He participated in a competition for the construction of a church on the battlefield of Poltava (1841), in which he had to compete with A. P. Bryullov , A. A. Ton , F. F. Richter , A. M. Gornostaev and others. Despite such strong competitors, the projects turned out to be so equal in merits that the Academy Council did not decide to give preference to any of them and decided “since each of these projects has more or less advantages in artistic terms, then forward them, for further orders, to General Manager of Communication and Publishing chnymi buildings. " Twice he was given programs for the title of professor: “project of the Academy of Arts with the Museum” (1846) and “project of the university” (1850), but, for reasons unknown to us, he did not receive the last title. Mostly, Reimers earned fame as a very experienced builder. He was a member of the Technical Construction Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs ; In addition, he served in the Office of the Empress Maria and in the Ministry of the Sea . He himself or according to his projects carried out many state and private buildings, not only in St. Petersburg and its environs, but also in other cities - in Kronstadt , in Vilna , in Kostroma , in Orenburg , in Perm , in the Peter and Paul Port and others. We will indicate from them: the Stone Church at the Mitrofanievsky cemetery; Midwives Institute of the Great Prince Elena Pavlovna (1851); the building of the Berdovo Cast Iron Foundry on Matisov Island; an overnight shelter for 1000 people with a nationwide dining room, in the Narva part (1873); the house of Mrs. Voeikova, in the style of Louis XVI, on Nevsky Prospect (1873-1874); the central market in the Narva part (1876-1877); barracks for 2000 people, in Perm (1878); a theater, a pedagogical institute, a house of noble assembly and a house for the shelter of the poor in Orenburg (1870); houses of the post office in Vilna (1881) and many others. etc. In addition, he restored the Tatar mosque in Orenburg (1880), drew up a project for the reconstruction of the Lithuanian prison castle and built again, based on measurements by F.F. Richter , the ancient church of Irina the Great Martyr , at the Main Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the former Naryshkin house in Moscow. [2]
