Black, Jeremy

Jeremy Black ( born Jeremy Black ; born October 30, 1955 ) is a British historian and professor of history at the University of Exeter . He is a senior fellow at the Center for the Study of America and the West at the Foreign Policy Research Institute in Philadelphia . He is the author of more than 100 books, mainly on 18th century British politics and international relations. Jeremy Black was called "the most prolific historical scholar of our century" [1] .

Biography

Black graduated from Queens College in Cambridge , after which he entered graduate school at the colleges of St. John's and Merton in Oxford . Since 1980, he taught at the University of Durham as a lecturer, then as a professor. In 1996, he transferred to the University of Exeter. For all the time he gave lectures many times in Australia , Canada , Denmark , France , Germany , Italy and the USA [2] .

From 1989 to 2005, he was editor of Archives , the British Records Association magazine [3] . At the same time Black was a member of the Council of the British Records Association (1989–2005), the Council of the Royal Historical Society (1993–1996 and 1997–2000) and the Council of the Society of Lists and Indices (since 1997).

He has served on the editorial boards of History Today , International History Review , Military History Journal , Media History, and the Royal Institute for Combined Services Journal (now RUSI magazine). He is a consultant to the Barsanti Center for Military History at the University of North Texas [2] .

Awards and honors

  • 2000 MBE for postage stamp services as an advisor to Royal Mail since 1997.
  • The 2008 Samuel Eliot Morison Award for Lifetime Achievement Awarded by the Military History Society [4] .
