Ushakov Square (Sevastopol)

Ushakov Square is a square in the Leninsky district of Sevastopol , one of the oldest squares in the city and the largest of the squares of the central ring of the city. It is not built up on the east side, and the square offers views of the Ship side, the South Bay and the green hills of the Heracles Peninsula .

History

Bust of Admiral Ushakov

The area arose in the XVIII century , for a long time was an urban outskirts. The area changed its name several times - from the beginning of the 19th century. it was called the Fontana , as the water supply approached it and the fountain worked, from which the inhabitants took water. Since 1842, after the theater - the Theater was built on the square. In 1885, she was given the name of the hero of the first defense F.M. Novosilsky , in 1921 it was renamed the Square of the Commune , and in 1954 it was given its current name. [one]

On June 29, 1983, a bust of Admiral Ushakov ( sculptor S. A. Chizh , architect and G. G. Kuzminsky and A. S. Gladkov) was installed on the square.
