Biography

Born on January 1, 1955 in the Stalingrad region in the Sarpinsky district (now the Sarpinsky district of the Republic of Kalmykia ). In 1972 he graduated from high school number 85 in Volgograd [2] .

He served in the Navy since 1972. In 1977 he graduated from the Higher Naval Diving School named after the Lenin Komsomol [2] .

From October 1984 to 1986, he was Senior Assistant to the B-77 Submarine Commander. In 1987 he graduated from the Higher Special Classes of the Navy and was appointed to the post of senior assistant commander of the submarine "B-478" [2] .

In October 1988 he was appointed commander of the submarine B-304 . In 1991, during the reduction, the 35th division, where Gennady Lyachin served, was disbanded, and the submarine was withdrawn from the fleet [2] .

In April 1991, he was appointed senior assistant to the commander of the K-119 Voronezh submarine of Project 949A Antey, whose crew was being formed and the boat itself was being built on slipways in Severodvinsk .

From September 1991 to March 1993, the crew trained at the Navy Training Center in Obninsk .

Until 1996, the crew of the K-119 submarine Voronezh was declared the best in the division for three consecutive years.

In February 1996, Voronezh entered combat service in the North Atlantic, where the crew worked out tasks together with the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov , returning from the Mediterranean Sea. In a military campaign, the first-time officer carried the commander’s shift along with the commander of the submarine, Captain 1st Rank Yezhov, and he was calm when Lyachin replaced him. Once in stormy weather during a shift of G.P. Lyachin, in an area with very intensive shipping, the boat was thrown to the surface. But the captain of the 2nd rank Lyachin was not at a loss. While the commander ran from the third compartment to the second, the old man had already filled the tanks, plunged and set off.

In the same 1996, Gennady Lyachin was appointed commander of the “twin” “Voronezh” - the nuclear missile submarine cruiser “ K-141” “Kursk” , he was awarded the rank of captain of the 1st rank. In this post, G.P. Lyachin actually became the first commander of the new Russian ocean school of the late XX century. It was he who was instructed to launch the Kursk nuclear submarine after a long break in the open spaces of the Mediterranean.

In 1999, Captain 1st Rank G.P. Lyachin led the Kursk on a Mediterranean military campaign, before doing this “perfectly” rocket firing for the prize of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy.

The campaign of the Kursk nuclear submarine was carried out according to the plan and under the command of the commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral V. A. Popov , who gave him the following description: “The commander of Kursk was able to fully realize our plan. The ship secretly broke into the Mediterranean Sea through Gibraltar. It was not a breakthrough, but a song! ” [3]

According to press reports [ where? ] and data [ what? ] of the Russian writer-marine painter VV Shigin , the sudden appearance in the Mediterranean Sea of the latest “killer aircraft carriers” caused panic in the ranks of the 6th US fleet . The anti-submarine forces of all the Mediterranean countries of NATO were involved in the search for the Kursk. However, K-141 managed to secretly leave. Several chiefs at once, including the commander of the anti-submarine defense of the Gibraltar zone, [ who? ] are losing their posts, and the commander of the Kursk was presented with the title of Hero of Russia [4] .

In the course of the performance of military service tasks in the Mediterranean, the Kursk APC operated under the overwhelming superiority of the antisubmarine forces of a potential enemy. Fulfilled the task of observing enemy carrier-based strike multi-purpose groups. He monitored them and made a search along the way for the nuclear submarines of foreign states, while maintaining secrecy and combat stability . Following the results of the military service, 72 crew members were presented for government awards. Captain 1st rank G. Lyachin presented to the title of Hero of Russia. APRK "Kursk" recognized as the best submarine of the SF.

- [5]

According to the results of the competition for 1999, the K-141 APC Kursk was recognized as the best in the 7th division. Five of its combat units are “excellent”. 23% of the crew are masters of military affairs. The remaining 77% are specialists of the 1st and 2nd classes [2] .

In the last year of the 20th century, Captain 1st Rank G.P. Lyachin prepares the crew for a new long-distance campaign as part of a powerful group. After the collapse of the USSR, Russia was again preparing to return to the Mediterranean Sea. On August 10, 2000, the commander of the Kursk launched a submarine nuclear submarine into the sea for a three-day planned exercise [2] .
