Biography
In 1974 he graduated from the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology of Voronezh State University (VSU).
In 1972-1973 he worked as a translator for the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Management of the USSR in Cuba.
Since 1974 - teacher, since 2004 - associate professor, since 2010 - Professor of the Department of Romance Philology of Voronezh State University.
In 1995-1999 - Dean of the Faculty of Romance-Germanic Philology.
Since 1999 - Vice-Rector, in 2006-2011 - Rector of VSU. Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Voronezh Region.
In 2010—2013 - Head of the Department of Italian Philology, since 2013 - the Department of Romance Philology.
From 2015 - Dean of the Faculty of Romance-Germanic Philology at Voronezh State University.
Candidate dissertation "The ratio of system-language and speech aspects of the category of modality (based on the modalities of the assumptions of the Russian and Spanish languages)" is defended in the dissertation council at Saratov State University (1988). Doctoral thesis "Principles of quantitative lexicology (on the example of Romance languages)" in the specialty "comparative historical, typological and comparative linguistics" is defended in the dissertation council at Tver State University (2005). Since 2006, he has the academic title of “professor” (2006).
Engaged in research in the field of comparative linguistics and translation theory. In particular, for the first time, a parametric method for identifying the core of a lexical-semantic system was theoretically substantiated, methodically developed and practically implemented.
The author of about 200 published works, including 3 monographs, among them: “General Quantitative Lexicology of Romance Languages” (Voronezh, 2002), “Private Quantitative Lexicology of Romance Languages” (Voronezh, 2004).
Since 2001, he was the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Voronezh Interregional Institute of Social Sciences, established with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, ANO “INO-Center (Information. Science. Education.)”, The Institute of Promising Russian Studies named after Kennan (USA), Carnegie Corporation in New York (USA), John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (USA).
He also served as director of the Center for Modern European Languages and Translation and head of the Chinese Center at VSU.
