Education and career
Netshetrshil received his Ph.D. from Charles University in 1973 under the direction of Ales Pultra and [1] . He has published over 300 articles [2] . Since 2006, Jaroslav has been Chairman of the Committee on Mathematics of the Czech Republic (Czech partner of the International Mathematical Union ).
Yaroslav Neshetrshil is the editor-in-chief of the journal Informatics Overview [3] and Integers: An Electronic Journal of Combinatorial Theory [4] . He is also an honorary editor of the Electronic Journal of Graph Theory and Applications [5] . Since 2008, Yaroslav Neshetrshil has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Academy of the Tit [6] .
Awards and honors
He was awarded the State Prize (1985, together with Vojtech Redl) for a collection of articles on Ramsey theory. The book "Thinning - Graphics, Structures and Algorithms", which he co-authored with , was included in the 2012 ACM Computing Reviews list of famous books and articles [7] .
Netshetrschil has been a Corresponding Member of the German Academy of Sciences since 1996 and was appointed Honorary Doctor of the University of Alaska ( Fairbanks ) in 2002. He also received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Bordeaux I in 2009; the speech he gave in French in honor of this attracted much attention [8] . In 2010, he received a medal for services to the Czech Republic [9] and a Gold Medal of the Faculty of Physics and Technology at Charles University in 2011. In 2012, he was elected to the European Academy [10] . He also became an honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2013 [11] .
He was a guest speaker at the European Mathematical Congress in Amsterdam in 2008 [12] and at the Combinatorics session of the International Congress of Mathematicians (sections “Logic”, “Fundamentals” and “Combinatorics”) in Hyderabad in 2010 [13] . In 2018, on the occasion of the 670th anniversary of the founding of Charles University, Jaroslav Neshetršil received the Donatio Universitatis Carolinae Prize from Charles University Rector for his contribution to mathematics and for his leading role in creating the world-famous group on discrete mathematics at Charles University [14] .
