Karlis Janis (Karl Fritsevich) Priezhe ( Latvian: Kārlis Žanis Prieže ; July 7, 1907 , Ventspils , Courland Province , Russian Empire - February 25, 1977 , Riga , Latvian SSR ) - Latvian Soviet political, state and public figure.

Biography

From the peasants. Since 1929 - a member of the Communist Party of Latvia , engaged in underground activities, was repeatedly arrested by the authorities, spent several years in prison.

After Latvia joined the USSR in 1940, he was appointed secretary of the Ventspils - Talsi - Tukums County Committee of the Communist Party of Latvia.

In the same year he was elected as a deputy of the People’s Diet of Latvia , presided over its separate meetings.

In 1944-1948 he was secretary of the Supreme Council of the Latvian SSR . In 1945-1949 he worked in the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Latvia .

Later, before retiring in 1962, he was Deputy Minister of Social Security of the Latvian SSR.
