History
The initial data of the record city-glider-glider “Lenin City” were determined as a result of a thorough calculation study on the influence of wing span and elongation, weight and harmful resistance on basic flight data. Simultaneously, calculations were performed that made it possible to determine the optimal power circuit of the wing and the glider as a whole. This glider, presented in 1930 at the 7th All-Union Glider rally, was called the "new word of Soviet gliding." It was the “City of Lenin” glider that gave rise to a whole series of gliders of a similar type - “ DiP ” (“Catch up and Overtake”) and “ Six Conditions ”, the aerodynamic quality of which was not inferior to foreign ones. The glider "City of Lenin" showed the best aerodynamic quality among domestic gliders that was the best for that time.
Approved for flight by the decision of the Chairman of the Technical Council S.V. Ilyushin . The first flight was performed by test pilot A.K. Joost .
