111th New York Infantry Regiment

The 111th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment is one of the Union 's infantry regiments during the US Civil War . The regiment was formed in August 1862 and sent to Harpers Ferry, where he took part in the battle of Harpers Ferry. After the surrender of the garrison was conditionally released. After complete liberation, he was enrolled in the III Corps of the Potomac Army and went through all the battles of 1863 in the east, after which he was transferred to the II Corps and in its composition fought until the end of the war.

Formation

On July 19, 1862, Jesse Segoin, brigadier general of the New York militia, was authorized by the military department to recruit a regiment in the Cayuga and Wayne counties. The regiment was recruited in Obernai and there on August 20 was accepted into the service in the federal army for a period of three years. The regiment companies were recruited: Rota A in Marion, Palmyra, Ontario and Walworth, Rota B in Clyde and Savannah, Rota C in Obernai, Palmyra, Rose Valley, Victory, Montezuma, Summer Hill and Sterling, Rota D in Lyons, Sodus , Galen and Williamson, Rota E in Arcadia, Sodus, Williamson, Marion and Palmyra, Rota F in Port Byron, Obernai and Widsport, Rota G in Obernai and Genoa, Rota N in Obernai, Kato, Ira, Conquest and Sterling, Rota I in Moravia, Venice, Lok, Ledyard, Niels, Sempronius and Scipio, Rota K in Union Springs, Springport, Genoa, Aurora, Moravia, Scipio and Ledyard.
