Ivan Nikolaevich Yelchaninov was born in 1862 in the Yaroslavl province , with which almost all of his activity was connected.
He received an agronomic education at the Moscow Agricultural School. He headed the Shubino-Vakhtinsky agricultural school (the village of Shubino, Danilovsky district ). At the beginning of the 20th century, he organized a similar school in the Big Village of Uglich Uyezd . He served as an agronomist in the Romanovo-Borisoglebsky district . He was a secretary and historian of the Yaroslavl Society of Agriculture.
He wrote several significant works in the field of meteorology, based on his own long-term research; received for them in 1894 a silver medal from the Society of lovers of natural sciences, anthropology and ethnography . He was also a corresponding member of the Nikolaev Main Physical Observatory .
At the same time, he was prone to doing genealogy and worked a lot in the archives of the Yaroslavl deputy assembly. He worked in the Yaroslavl provincial scientific archival commission . He was a member of the Historical and Pedigree Society in Moscow. [1] Published a number of studies, the main ones - “Materials for the genealogy of the Yaroslavl nobility” (the only major study on the history of local noble families) and “Materials for the history of the Yaroslavl military force in World War II”.
Having lost his large collection of books and manuscripts during the fire in Yaroslavl in the summer of 1918, he moved to Moscow and entered the service of the Main Archival Administration . Died of malnutrition in 1919. [2]
