Matema is an island in the Reef Islands group ( Solomon Islands , Temotu Province) [1] [2] .

General information
The island is inhabited. Residents communicate in the language of Pileni , which refers to the Polynesian. It is spoken on some other islands from the Reef Islands group, as well as on the Taumako Islands, which are located 200 miles to the east. Speakers of Pileni are considered descendants of immigrants from Tuvalu .
Matema Island is surrounded by a circular reef with a diameter of about 1 km. Malim Reef is located 1.3 km north of it.
