Content
DescriptionLength up to 1.6 - 1.9 m, maximum 2.1 m. Weight up to 52 kg. The body is oblong, strongly compressed laterally, but relatively low. The shape of the body and the ratio of its parts vary greatly with age. The snout is short. The scales have the appearance of serrated plates along the edge. Small teeth are located on the jaws and palatine bones. The head is large. The caudal fin is large, with a deep separation, its lobes are rather narrow. On the caudal stem there are 2 keels. The pectoral fin is low and short. The first dorsal fin originates above the posterior margin of the overlap. The second dorsal and anal fins are similar in shape and size. The second anal fin is shifted forward relative to the beginning of the second dorsal fin. The ventral fins are longer than the pectoral ones. The membrane of the first dorsal fin is intense blue, all other fins are black-brown. On the basis of the anal fins are silver-white stripes. The back is blue, the sides of the body are brown and bluish, the belly is silver-white [2] [3] .
RangeInhabits the Pacific coast of Japan, the island of Taiwan ( China ), Hawaiian Islands ; Northwestern, Middle, and South Pacific ; migration to the coast of California is known [2] .
BiologyPelagic marine species. Fast, powerful swimmers chasing flocks of fish in the open sea.
