History

Attack on the powder factory in Pont de Bui - Painting by unknown artist of the XIX century

The Pont-de-Bui-Le-Kimerc commune was formed in 1965 as a result of the merger of the Pont-de-Bui, Kimerk (Kimerkh) and Logonne-Kimerk communes. In the Roman period , the road from Quimper to Landerneau passed through the current Pont de Bui-Le-Kimerk, and objects and remnants of buildings from this time were found on the territory of the commune.

In 1687, on the orders of Jean-Baptiste Colbert Jr., local farmer Berthelot rebuilt the usual mill into a powder factory. The place for the production of gunpowder was chosen because of the proximity to the arsenal of Brest , a large flow of water on the rapids of the Duffin River, and the presence of buckthorn in the local forests, which is the raw material for the production of gunpowder. In June 1795, about 600 Chouans attacked a poorly guarded factory and stole eight barrels of gunpowder, and about twenty more sank in the river, because they could not take it away. A week after that, the landing of the Chouans and their allies on the Cyberon Peninsula began. The powder plant exists even now, although its work was interrupted several times due to powerful explosions accompanied by human victims.
