Biography
Born on August 7, 1982 in Dzhezkazgan, in the Kazakh SSR. As a child, he drew a lot, created comics.
In 1999, he won the competition for the best script for the production of the animated film "Goats-Corps and Bayan-Sulu" ( the Khabar television agency). At the same time, he worked in a number of publications, where he analyzed the Kazakhstan and world film process.
In 2009, he graduated from the directing department of the Kazakh National Academy of Arts. T.K. Zhurgenova (teachers Bauyrzhan Nogerbek , Alexander Nilov, Raushan Ospanova, Margarita Solovyova, , Talas Umurzakov) with the thesis - the film "Karatas". Having received a scholarship, he continued his internship in New York [2] .
Wife Inna Smailova is a professional film expert who helps her husband in proofreading scripts and editing films.
Creativity
In 2007, at the Eurasia Film Festival, the film “Bakhytzhamal” (made as a term paper) was awarded the prize “for the best direction”, as well as the Grand Prix of the film festival “Shoken zhldyzdary” (“Shaken's Stars”) .
In 2009, the film "Karatas" was recognized as the best diploma work, and was also awarded for the best male role at the Didar Film Festival.
The first feature film "Realtor" (2011) won the White Chamelion Award at the CINDI International Film Festival in South Korea; Grand Prix for the best feature film ("Golden Jean-Luc") at the Kinolikbez Film Festival (Russia); Grand Prix in the category "Cinema of the Young" at the international film festival "Shaken Stars" (Kazakhstan); special prizes of the jury of the film festivals “Kinoshok” (Russia) and “Deboshirfilm-Pure Dreams-XIV” (Russia, 2012).
In 2013, Yerzhanov and his fellow student Serik Abishev made a film “Builders” in a competition announced by the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan for the production of social short films (grant - 10 thousand dollars). The film participated in several international film festivals: in Wiesbaden, Edinburgh, Almaty, Busan, Rome and others. The tape was awarded the Grand Prix at the international film festival in the Philippines (2013).
The third feature film, “The Hosts” (“Ukilі kәmshat”, 2014), shot in the style of a comedy drama , was presented at the Cannes Film Festival (2014) , the Toronto International Festival (2014) and was awarded the main prize at the , and also was awarded the NETPAC Prize of the International Asian Film Festival , the Grand Prix of the International Film Festival in Lebanon and the 21st Listapad Film Festival in Minsk. The film “Slagbaum” was awarded the silver “St. George” award for Best Actor (Erkebulan Dairov, International Moscow Film Festival, 2015).
