Tota ( Spanish: Tota ) is a small town and municipality in central Colombia , within the Boyaca department. Included in the province of Sugamuksi .

Content
History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1535. The municipality of Thoth was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1858.
Geographical position
The city is located in the east of the central part of the department, in the highlands of East Cordillera , west of Lake Tota , at a distance of approximately 38 kilometers northeast of the city of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 2860 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of Tota borders on the territory of the municipality of Kuitiva in the north, the municipality of Akitania in the east, the municipality of Mongua in the southeast, and the municipality of Pesca in the south and west. The area of the municipality is 314 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 5386 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 50.2% of the Tota population, women - 49.8%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 99.9% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 0.1% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 86.1%.
Economics
44% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 35.2% are service enterprises, 18.4% are industrial enterprises, 2.4% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
