History
The reservation was founded in 1888 for two Native American peoples - the Guerntres and the Assiniboins . It got its name from Fort Belnap, which in turn was named in honor of William Worth Belnap , an American general and Minister of War in the office of Ulysses Grant .
Until 1861, the Gountra were part of the Blackfoot Confederation and were at enmity with the Assiniboins, but after one incident, they broke with their allies and united with their former enemies. In 1869, the gantry and the groups of upper Assiniboins closest to them made peace.
In March 2012, Fort Belnap Indians received a herd of purebred plain bison from Yellowstone National Park [1] . A century later, these animals reappeared on the territory of the gantry and the Assiniboins [2] .
In 2014, 4Finance US Holding Inc., a fast-lending service, was launched on the reservation territory, one of the owners of which is Russian oligarch Oleg Viktorovich Boyko [3] [4] .
Geography
The reservation area is 2626 km², it is located in the north-central part of Montana and includes part of the Blaine and Phillips counties.
