History
In the early 1990s, Ikarus launched a low-floor bus program, one of which was introduced as Ikarus 412. The chief engineer of this type of bus was Matthias Matolci , the designer was Zoltan Karozi . To reduce development time and costs, designers relied on elements of the Type 400, developed in the 1980s , and the interior also contains many of the elements used in the Ikarus 200 (covers, handcuffs, steering wheel, interior lighting, etc.). that all innovations are not conspicuous. However, compared with the first series of major European manufacturers of low-floor buses ( Mercedes Citaro , Scania Omnicity , Neoplan Centroliner ), there is a significant difference. However, it is important to note that the program, which is not very successful in terms of performance indicators, has played an innovative role. There was no testing period, buses were often criticized by customers.
Domestic companies did not initially order low-floor buses, but instead purchased cheaper 200e series. In the 1990s , versions with the standard floor 400 series (VÖV II, 750 mm) had more moderate success.
In 2010 , some of the Ikarus 412 were repaired in Székesfehérváron , in which the main problems of the car's construction (frame design) were eliminated. In addition, new, larger and darker windows were added, a new information block for passengers (Vultron) was repaired, the bus interior was restored.
