Criticism
In February 2016, Mailchimp announced the merger of the Mandrill Transactional Email Service with Mailchimp as an optional feature and notified customers 60 days in advance to upgrade to a new pricing structure or find an alternative service platform. The announcement was widely criticized and outraged by customers over the new pricing structure, which requires a paid Mailchimp plan before it can purchase Mandrill loans, which results in customers paying for two products to gain access to Mandrill.
Previously, customers could purchase Mandrill loans to send emails without registering with Mailchimp. Loans were initially valued at $ 9.95 for 25,000 emails, but increased to $ 20 for the same number of emails under the new pricing scheme. In addition to having to buy Mandrill loans, customers should now be on a Mailchimp monthly paid plan (the minimum monthly plan is $ 10 per month), even if the client does not need Mailchimp services and only wants access to Mandrill. Mandrill has been renamed Mailchimp Transactional.
