Characteristics
The bridge is 2 209 m long, 309 m of which falls on the territory of Russia. The bridge will be double-track, with a gauge of Russian and Chinese standards.
History
Preparation for the construction of the bridge has been going on for more than 20 years [1] . The agreement on its construction was signed in 2013, the estimated initial cost is 9 billion rubles.
From the Russian side, construction work started in July 2016, from the Chinese - a little earlier.
Later, the work required additional allocations, which were increased by 15-20%. In the final analysis, the cost of the project is estimated at 18.8 billion rubles: the Russian Federation is investing 14 billion rubles, the Chinese side - 5.2 billion [2] .
On the Russian side, the facility is 25% funded by the Development Fund for the Far East and the Baikal Region, and 75% by the Direct Investment Fund through the Russian-Chinese Foundation (CIC).
In October 2018, the Russian and Chinese parts of the railway bridge between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China Nizhneleninskoe-Tongjiang were joined.
“This can be called a historical event. Parts of the bridge are connected; and let it be temporary metal supports, which after the complete assembly will be dismantled, the main thing is that the docking took place, ”said the Russian Minister for the Development of the Far East, Alexander Kozlov . The Minister noted that the bridge will become part of the new export route and an incentive for creating new logistics and industrial clusters, and will improve the transport accessibility of several regions of the Far East.
Works are carried out by Russian contractors, while, according to experts, at least 1,400 new jobs have already appeared [3] .
Traffic on the bridge is scheduled to begin in September 2019. But this construction will not end.
“Another important task is the organization of the checkpoint, for which Rosgranstroy is responsible. We carried out certain work, gathered for a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, the plenipotentiary of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District, Yury Trutnev . By the time the bridge is commissioned, a working scheme will be provided, which will allow organizing the full operation of the bridge and the movement of export and import cargoes without any restrictions on directions, ”said the Governor of the Jewish Autonomous Region Alexander Levintal [4] .
Perspectives
It is planned to export iron ore, coal, mineral fertilizers, forest products and other goods across the bridge to China [5] .
The capacity of the bridge will be up to 21 million tons per year. It will connect the Jewish Autonomous Region with Heilongjiang Province and allow for the creation of a new export corridor between Russia and China. The transition will significantly increase the turnover and competitiveness of Russian producers and exporters - the distance to the final consumer will be reduced by about 700 km compared to other existing railway routes [6] .
