For more than 50 years - in 1951-2004 she taught at the Higher School of Law (MGLA) at the Department of Labor Law and Social Security Law: in 1951 - 1956. - Senior lecturer, in 1956 - 1970. - Associate Professor, in 1970 - 2004 - by the professor.

The contribution of V. N. Tolkunova to the science and teaching of labor law and social security law is enormous. She paid special attention to the development of the problem of legal regulation of women's labor. The proposals put forward in the doctoral dissertation for lawmakers to improve labor standards and conditions were in demand and were enshrined in the Labor Code of the RSFSR in 1971 (Chapter XI - “Women's Labor”).

Biography

Born in 1914 in the city of Mtsensk.

She graduated with honors from the Moscow Law Institute, and was accepted to graduate school by competition. The study was interrupted in connection with the appointment to the legal department of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR. She resumed her postgraduate studies at the Foreign Trade Institute. Two years later, a Ph.D. thesis on the history of foreign trade of Russia was mainly prepared, however, due to difficult births (second son) and the ensuing complications, Tolkunova filed an application for expulsion from graduate school.

Already working at the Department of Labor Law of the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Law (VUZI, now - O. E. Kutafin Moscow State Law University), in 1951 she retook candidate exams. In 1953 she defended her thesis on the topic "Legal Regulation of Labor of Scientific and Pedagogical Workers of the Soviet Higher School", in 1970 she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic "Social and Legal Problems of the Labor of Women in the USSR." In 1972, Tolkunova was awarded the title of professor. In the same year, in connection with the formation of the department of collective farm land law as an independent one, at the request of the rector, she agreed to the temporary management of it, while continuing to work at the department of labor law.

In total, she worked in her native university for more than 50 years: head of graduate school, senior lecturer, associate professor, professor.

Tolkunova's contribution to the science of labor law and social security law is solid. She paid special attention to the development of the problem of legal regulation of labor of Soviet women. Many of her proposals to improve the standards and working conditions were in demand. They were enshrined, in particular, in the Labor Code of the RSFSR in 1971, in chapter XI “Labor of Women”, the author of which was Tolkunova.

She also initiated the release of textbooks for students by university professors, and since 1961 she is the author of textbooks and co-author of textbooks on labor law and social security law.

In the last 15 years of her life, she has developed and updated textbooks and teaching materials for the “Labor disputes” special course for publication, revising them under the new labor legislation. She wrote the textbook "Labor Law of Russia", which is used by students of Moscow State Law Academy and other legal universities of the country.

In early 2002, on the basis of the new Labor Code of the Russian Federation, she prepared the “Course of Lectures on Labor Law”, which became the first training material on the new Code.

In total, over 53 years of scientific and pedagogical work has published more than 150 works. As a teacher, she prepared and graduated with defense of doctoral dissertations by more than 20 scientists, six of whom headed departments in a number of universities in the country, and the vast majority became teachers of law faculties.

For many years, she actively participated in the work of the Committee of Soviet Women, the International Association of Democratic Lawyers; For more than 20 years she was a member of the Scientific Advisory Council at the Supreme Court of the country.

In 1971, Tolkunova was awarded the honorary title “Honored Lawyer of the RSFSR”, and in 1999 the honorary title “Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation”.

She died on August 28, 2004 at the 90th year of her life. She was buried at Kuntsevsky cemetery.

she made a significant contribution to the development of Soviet and Russian science of labor law, investigated a number of pressing problems of the industry, including the legal regulation of women’s labor and labor disputes, became one of the founders of gender studies in Soviet labor law and even within the permissible Soviet doctrine, feminist trends in science. She substantiated the right of women to work as an independent legal category and an inseparable part of the requirements of equal rights for women in all areas of society; analyzed the essence of the woman’s right to work, forms and guarantees of its implementation in the USSR.
