Leasing was annexed to Vienna after the Anschluss of Austria by Germany, when the number of districts in Vienna increased from 21 to 26. Fifteen regions of Lower Austria formed Leasing, then the 25th district of Vienna. After the transfer of power to the allies, Leasing returned under the jurisdiction of Lower Austria, to the Soviet occupation zone. Finally, in 1954, part of the larger district returned to Vienna, forming the 23rd district.
In Leasing is the terminal station of the sixth metro line.
