Progress in world records at a distance of 200 meters freestyle in men in a 25-meter pool. In 1902, the first world record in 200-meter freestyle swimming was registered in a 50-meter pool . [one]
In the first four Olympics , swimming competitions were held not in pools, but in open water (1896 - the Mediterranean Sea, 1900 - the Seine River, 1904 - an artificial lake, 1906 - the Mediterranean Sea). A 100-meter pool was built for the 1908 Olympics and was located in the center of the track and field oval of the main stadium. The Olympic Games of 1912 , held in Stockholm Harbor , marked the beginning of electronic timing.
In 2008, on the eve of the Olympic Games, Speedo introduced a 50% polyurethane suit called LZR. Pure polyurethane suits from Arena (X-Glide), Adidas (Hydrofoil) and the Italian costume manufacturer, Jaked were considered largely responsible for numerous world records in 2009, including at the 2009 World Aquatics Championship (called " Plastic Games "). FINA announced a ban on non-woven suits, which entered into force in January 2010. [2]
At the 1924 Summer Olympics, a standard 50-meter pool with marked tracks was first used. In the freestyle, the swimmers initially kicked off the walls of the pool, the starting tables were first used in the competitions of the 1936 Summer Olympics . Turn "somersault" ("somersault turn") began to be officially applied since 1950.
The collapse of world records in swimming in 2008/2009 coincided with the introduction of polyurethane suits from Speedo (LZR, 50% polyurethane) in 2008 and Arena (X-Glide), Adidas (Hydrofoil) and Italian manufacturer of swimming suits Jaked (all 100% polyurethane) in 2009. FINA's ban on a swimming suit made of polyurethane came into force in January 2010. [3] ;
