Life and work

He received his professional education at the Academy of Fine Arts of Prague and then at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Master of genre painting. In 1855, by order of the Austrian branch of the company, Lloyd made a trip to the Danube countries that ended in Constantinople. On this trip, F. Laufberger was to create a series of sketches about mores and customs, as well as everyday life and sights in the Danube principalities, which were then to be processed and released from print in the form of prints. The work was done very successfully and brought recognition to the young master. Having received a scholarship from the Vienna Academy to continue his education abroad, the artist makes a trip to the cultural centers of Germany, Belgium and Italy, in 1862 he comes to Paris and stops here for 15 months. visiting the Louvre, F. Laufberger begins to write a large-format painting "Visitors in the Louvre". In 1865, he was entrusted with painting the curtain for the Comedy Opera Theater. In 1868, the artist became a professor of painting at the new Vienna University of Applied Arts, opened at the Austrian Museum. After finishing work on the curtain, he performs various decorative works. After the construction of a new building for the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna, he is working on one of the friezes of the building, and also frescoes the staircase from the entrance to the museum (image of Venus emerging from the sea, surrounded by Arts). As a painter, he preferred to portray mainly genre scenes, often humorous. Among his works should be called:

  • Traveler in front of a peasant farm (1859)
  • A self-taught scientist observes a solar eclipse (1858)
  • The Old Bachelor (1860)
  • Cozy place (1861)
  • Genoveva in the forest (1861)
  • Summer evening in Prater (1864)

By order of industrialist Karl Geiling F. Laufberger performs stained glass on cardboard for a building dedicated to Austrian industry at the World Exhibition in Vienna (with an allegorical figure of Austria seated on a throne in the center). Also known as a graph.

In 1889, one of Vienna's streets was named after the artist (2nd district of Leopoldstadt, Laufbergergasse ).
