History
The hotel is named after the 28th US President Woodrow Wilson , in honor of his dedication to the creation of the League of Nations . [2]
The hotel opened its doors on May 18, 1962. In 1980, it was acquired by a Swissair-Nestlé joint venture. In 1989, the Tamman family became the owner of the palace. The family invested 190 million Swiss francs in repairs and reopened it in 1996 under the name “New President Wilson Hotel.” In 2000, the hotel became part of the Starwood group. From 2007 to 2010 it was renovated again (40 million Swiss francs) to reflect 3 main themes: water, the surrounding landscape and light. [2]
In November 2016, the computer equipment of a hotel in Geneva was infected with spyware viruses, and confidential information was leaked. [3]
The Royal Penthouse Suite at President Wilson Hotel is considered the most expensive hotel room in the world , at a cost of 60,000 Swiss francs per night. [4] A 12-bedroom suite occupies the entire eighth floor of the hotel, with many heads of state from Bill Clinton to Mikhail Gorbachev . [5] Guests can enjoy the wonderful views of the Swiss Alps and Lake Geneva directly from the suite. [6]
In July 2017, according to Business Insider magazine , the President Wilson hotel took first place in the list of the most expensive suites in the world. [7]
