Biography

His full name is: Abu al-Muzaffar Mansur ibn Muhammad ibn Abdul Jabbar ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Jaafar ibn al-Ibn ibn Abdul al-Jabbar ibn al-Fadl ibn al-Rabbi 'ibn Ibn Ibn al-Jabbar ibn Al-Jabbar ibn al-Fadl ibn al-Ibn al-Fadl ibn Ibn ibn Ibn ibn Ibn ibn Ibn ibn Ibn ibn ibn Ibn ibn ibn Ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn ibn al-Fadl -Marruzi. Al-Samani was born in the month of Dhul-Hijj in 1035 in a religious family. His father is Abu Mansur Muhammad (mind. 1058 ) was one of the famous theologians of Merv, wrote books in the field of sciences of the Arabic language [1] .

When al-Samani reached about the age of seven, his father took up his training. He became his first sheikh, from whom Mansur adopted the Hanafi fichk and other Islamic sciences. Then he continued his studies with famous scientists of his city, among whom was the Hadistic scholar Abu Ghanim al-Kura'i (mind. 1052 ), Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abdu-s-Samad-at-Turabi (d. 1070 ). Having become one of the prominent scientists of the Hanafi madhhab of his time, he decided to go in search of knowledge to other cities of the Arab caliphate. He visited such cities as: Nishapur, Gorgan, Hamasan, Qazvin. Among his teachers were also such famous theologians as: Abdu-s-Samad ibn al-Mamoun, Abu Salih al-Muazzin, and others. [1]

AT In 1069 , he set out to go to Mecca to make pilgrimages (Hajj). On the way to Mecca, he stopped in the cities and searched for scientists from whom he could learn from. In the same year he arrived in Baghdad and met with famous scientists of this city. In Baghdad, he held disputes and meetings with prominent theologians and jurists: Abu Nasr ibn Sabbah (d. 1084 ) and Abu Ishaq al-Shirazi (d. 1083 ). In Baghdad, he attended the Hadith lessons of Ahmad ibn Muhammad an-Nakk'ura (d. 1077 ), Abu al-Hanaim al-Hashimi (d. 465), Abu Jaafar ibn Maslama (d. 465), Ibn Garik (d. 465) and others. [1]

After staying in Baghdad, he continued on his way to Hejaz. On the way, he and his companions went astray, and was captured by the Bedouin-robbers. He had to feed the camels. One day the Bedouin ruler decided to marry his daughter and wanted to travel to another locality for marriage. Learning of this, one of the companions of Imam al-Samani told the Bedouins that he could help them. After al-Samani explained how to conclude a marriage contract (nicknames) correctly, the Bedouins were ashamed and asked for his forgiveness. He refused the gifts offered to him, after which he was taken to Mecca. When al-Samani arrived in Mecca, he began to attend the lessons of Imam Sa'd ibn 'Ali al-Zinjani ash-Shafii (mind. 1078 ), whose knowledge and meekness was admired by al-Samani. Al-Zinjani had an enormous influence on Abu-l-Muzaffar, and after some time he moved from the Hanafi madhhab to the Shafi'i [1] .

Having completed your journey through the Hijaz in 1075 , he returns to Mörv again. Some commoners did not like his transition to the Shafi'i madhhab, because of which he had disagreements with the governor of the city, who ordered Abul-Muzaffaru to leave Merv. First, Al-Samani left for Tus, after which he went to Nishapur, where he was engaged in teaching. After some time, he returned to Merv and became a very respected person. He had many students whom he taught Sharia knowledge for the rest of his life. Among his disciples were such famous theologians as: Umar ibn Muhammad Al-Sarakhsi, Abu Nasr Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Fashani, Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr al-Shinji, Ismail ibn Muhammad al-Taimi, Abu Nasr al-Gazi, Abu Abu Bakr al-Gazi, Abu Al-Tajimah, Abu al-Ghazi al-Taimi, Abu Al-Nahr al-Ghazi, Abu Al-al-Fashani, Abu Nasr al-Ghazi, Abu Al-Famay ibn al-baghdadi and others. Al-Samani died on the 23rd of the month of Rabi al-Avval in the year 489 AH (1096). He was buried in the cemetery of his hometown of Merv. After himself, he left five children, who also became famous scholars and theologians [1] .

Proceedings

Al-Samani has compiled many books and studies in various fields of Islamic sciences, like: fiqh, usul al-fiqh, tafsir, akida, and so on. Some books have not survived to this day. He compiled all his famous works after the transition to the Shafi'i madhhab [1] .

  • “Kitab ar-Radd 'ala-al-Kadariya” is a book on predestination.
  • "Minhaju ahli s-sunna" - a book on takfir and ayahs of the Quran mutashabih; The book is considered lost.
  • “Al-Intisar whether Askhabi-l Hadith” - a book on akida about the followers of the Sunna and Hadith (Askhab al-Hadith); The book is considered lost.
  • Tafsir - a three-volume book on the interpretation of the Koran
  • The collection of hadiths is a book in which thousands of hadiths are collected, which he handed over from one hundred sheikhs (10 hadiths from each); The book is considered lost.
  • “Kawatiu-l-Adilla” - a book on usul al-fiqh; one of his last books by al-Samani.
  • Al-burhan. It includes about a thousand questions of fiqh, in which there are disagreements. The book is considered lost.
  • Al-Ausat. The book is also considered lost.
  • "Al-Istilyam." It is considered the most famous book of the sheikh in the science of fiqh. Praise be to Allah, this book has reached us completely. It is a short work involving issues of fiqh, in which there are disagreements among scholars.
