Bentodesma [1] ( lat. Benthodesmus simonyi ) is a species of marine ray- fin fish from the family of hairtail (Trichiuridae) [2] .

Description

Body length up to 90 cm. The body is very slim and long with a characteristic long dorsal fin and short anal fin. The ventral fins are small in size. The caudal fin is small in size, highly bifurcated. The dorsal fin consists of 45–46 thin spiny rays merging with 102–109 other rays. The color is silver with a dark tint on the back and fins [1] .

Biology

A rare deep-sea species. It lives on the continental slope at depths of 200 to 400 m. Biology is poorly studied [1] .

Range

It lives in the Atlantic , Pacific and Indian oceans. Often found off the coast of Portugal and in the tropical Atlantic [1] .
