Tarbagan , or Mongolian (Siberian) marmot [1] ( lat. Marmota sibirica ) is a mammal of the marmot genus living in Russia (in the steppes of Transbaikalia and Tuva ), Mongolia (excluding the south), and Northeastern China .

Length - up to 60 cm. Carrier of the causative agent of plague .
Tarbagans are also called black-capped marmots in Kamchatka and Koryak. .
The object of hunting. In the old days it was eaten by the nomadic peoples of Central Asia: the Huns , the Mongols [2], and others.
