Below is a list of cities in Utah . This list includes the largest settlements only with the status of city ( city ), but not town ( small city ). In Utah, there are 243 incorporated communities [1] : 144 city and 99 town . Under a city with more than 1000 inhabitants can receive city status ( city is divided into five classes, which, again, depends on the number of inhabitants), a settlement with less than 1000 inhabitants has town status [2] (although there are and exceptions, for example, the city of . At the same time, there are almost no legal differences between city and town [1] , both must fulfill the basic requirements: “be fully responsible for municipal affairs, have their own police, sanitary and other necessary services that do not contradict the basic law” [3] . Otherwise, the status of the settlement is reduced to a “ statistically isolated area ”, despite the number of inhabitants. For example, the settlement has a population of people (2010), but cannot receive city status, as it is not able to fulfill the requirements stipulated by the Constitution.
88.2% of Utah's population lives in cities (large and small), including about 80% in the region.
