Biography

In 1732, Andras Hadik entered the Austrian service, served in the hussar regiment. It differs in several campaigns, in particular, in the War of the Polish Succession ( 1733 - 1735 ). In 1738 he participated in joint operations of Russian and Austrian forces against the Turks in Bessarabia , in the capture of Ochakov and Bender . In 1744 he was promoted to colonel, in 1748 , for services to the war for the Austrian inheritance - to major general, commanded the cavalry brigade.

Hadik's cavalry raid on Berlin in October 1757 (which served three years later as a model for a similar sortie of the Russian general G. Totleben ) was fanned by the legendary fame. For him, Khadik is awarded the large cross of the Order of Maria Theresa (only twenty military commanders in the entire history of Austria have received such an honor).

Since 1762, Hadik commanded the Imperial Army : at first successfully, but then was defeated by the Prussians on October 29, 1762 at Freiberg ( Saxony ) [1] .

After the Seven Years' War, Khadik was appointed military and civilian governor of Semigradya (Transylvania) (from 1764 to 1767 ). Then, In, 1769 , the president of the Karlovitsky Congress . In January - June 1774 - the military and civil governor of Galicia . May 14, 1774 received the rank of Field Marshal . In 1776 he received the title of count , in the same year he became president of the Gofkrigsrat . In 1789 he was appointed commander of the Imperial Army in the war against the Turks. But, suddenly ill, forced to soon give up command.

He was buried in the Futak estate, near the New Garden in Vojvodina , donated to him by the Empress Maria Theresa . In Buda, near the Cathedral of King Matyash, on April 29, 1937, an equestrian statue of Count Hadik was erected (author - György Vastakh). In 2004, the People's Defense Academy of Slovakia ( Slovak. Národná akadémia obrany maršala Andreja Hadika ) was named after Hadik.

Raid Berlin

Speaking on October 11 with a small flying detachment from the city of Elsterverda , 160 kilometers from Berlin , Khadik threw a quick throw (his hussars traveled fifty miles daily for ten days round trip, collecting contributions from the surrounding cities) and took possession of the storm of the Prussian capital on October 16 and held her for one day. Berlin military commandant General Hans Friedrich von Rochov fled to Spandau with the remains of a broken garrison. Having taken the indemnity, Hadik left Berlin , having managed to escape from the troops sent by Frederick II , who were from him at a distance of a two-hour march. Hadik's raid caused glee in Vienna and a huge resonance throughout Europe, demonstrating the vulnerability of Prussia and its capital.
