Australasia Tennis
In 1905, New Zealand joined the Australian National Lawn Tennis Association (withdrawn in 1922), and the association was renamed the Australian Australasia National Tennis Association.
The Australasian team made its debut in the Davis Cup in 1905 (this was the first performance for both Australians and New Zealanders). Results:
- victory - 1907-1909, 1911, 1914, 1919;
- defeat in the challenge round - 1912, 1920, 1922;
- did not pass the playoffs - 1905, 1906, 1913, 1921.
In 1905-1914, the backbone of the team was Australian Norman Brooks and New Zealander Anthony Wilding (Wilding did not participate in 1911-1913). After Wilding's death in World War I, the Australasian team actually (and formally from 1923) turned into the Australian team.
In 1905, the Australasian Championships began to be held, in which, however, often only Australians participated. In 1927, he changed his name to the Australian Championship , and later became one of the Grand Slam tournaments .
