Karas airfield had class 1 and could accept most types of aircraft.
The airfield was built in the mid-1960s, a mixed aviation regiment was based here. After the disbandment of the training ground (Russian troops serving at the training ground were redeployed to Russian territory) in 1999 , the airfield was abandoned and looted, and it was practically not operated.
As of 2010, most of the buildings and structures at the airport were dismantled, the runway was damaged by flood waters. Damage makes the further operation of the airfield impossible.
