Sozopol (football club)

FC Sozopol ( Bulgarian FC Sozopol ) is a Bulgarian football club from the city of the same name in south-eastern Bulgaria . The team holds home matches at the Arena Sozopol stadium, which seats about 3,500 spectators. Now "Sozopol" is playing in the Third Amateur Football League , the third level in the system of football leagues in Bulgaria .

History

In 2008, Sozopol joined the Southeast Group “B”. The team spent six seasons at this level. In 2012, the club began to conduct their home games at the Arena Sozopol, which accommodated about 2,000 spectators and opened in the same year [1] . At the end of the 2013/2014 season, the Sozopol club finally reached the Southeast Group “B”, thereby winning a ticket to Group “B” and for the first time achieving professional status [2] . In the same season, the team reached the 1/8 finals of the Bulgarian Cup , having defeated “ Akademik ” from Svishtov in the first round with the score 2: 0. But then “Sozopol” was defeated by Litex on the sum of two matches of 1: 8 (1: 2 at home and 0: 6 away).

The club finished its first season in Group B in sixth place out of 16 and expanded its stadium by building the southern stand, bringing the total capacity of the arena to 3,500 people. In the Cup of Bulgaria 2015/2016 "Sozopol", having won in 1/8 finals with a minimum score Plovdiv " Botev ", a representative of Group "A". On December 10, 2015, in the quarter finals, “Sozopol” was defeated on a visit from Sofia CSKA 0: 3. According to the results of the same season, the team took the fourth place in Group “B”, which was the best result for it in a short history. A year later, Sozopol repeated this success, but in the Second Professional Football League, which replaced Group B during the reform. But the next season, the club took the penultimate place in the league and returned to the amateur level [3] .
