Johann Theodor Berent ( Latvian: Johans Teodors Bērents ; June 11, 1789 , Riga , Livonia province , Russian Empire - July 9, 1866 Suntazi , Livonia province , Russian Empire ) - Latvian writer , translator of religious literature into Latvian , one of the founders (1824 ) and the head of the Latvian Literary Society (1845-1851). Biography
Baltic German . Born in the family of a Riga merchant. He studied theology at the University of Dorpat (1803-1806). From 1808 to 1850 he served as a parish priest in Suntazi . In 1724 he participated in the creation of the Latvian Literary Society, was its secretary and leader.
He created 38 supplements to Vidzemes kalendāra (1825-1863), regularly published analytical articles in the newspapers Ziņas, Latviešu ļaužu draugs, and Latviešu Avīzes.
In 1852, he published his book “Tā Dieva kalpa Mārtiņa Lutera mazais katķisms”, translated a number of short stories for children in the series “Grāmatiņas priekš tiem mīļiem bērniņiem” (1855-1865).
