Biography
Erlehard is one of the early heads of the Strasbourg archdiocese, which is known only from the medieval lists of local bishops. In these historical sources he is called the successor of Uto I and the predecessor of Adaloh . The exact dates when Erlehard occupied the episcopal chair in the city of Strasbourg have not been established. It is believed that he could be the head of the Strasbourg diocese around 816. It is only known that Adaloh became the new bishop of Strasbourg no later than August of that year. Perhaps it is precisely because of the short management of the diocese that any detailed evidence of Erlehard’s activities has not been preserved. The earliest surviving list of Strasbourg bishops, created in the second half of the 9th century under Ratold , mentions that "Erlekhard's decency was by no means inferior to him in honors" [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [ 7] .
