History
In the presidential elections of 1990 and 1995, the party's candidate was its founder, Alvaro Arsu , who won in 1995 and became the 32nd President of Guatemala (1996–2000).
Presidential candidate Oscar Berger Perdomo in the 1999 elections came out in the 2nd round, but lost to Alfonso Portillo . In the 2003 elections, he was again nominated as a party candidate, however, due to internal party disagreements, he quit the party, ran for the Great National Alliance, a coalition of three parties (Patriotic Party, Reformed Movement and National Solidarity Party) and, having won the election, became 34 President of Guatemala.
