Geographical position
San Miguel Shochitl is located in the south central part of the state, on the left bank of the Papaloapan River, approximately 161 kilometers southeast of the city of Jalapa Enriques , the state’s administrative center. The absolute height is 6 meters above sea level [1] .
Population
According to data obtained during the official census of 2005, 285 people (139 men and 146 women) lived in the village. There were 89 houses. According to the age range, the population was distributed as follows: 30.5% - residents under 18 years old, 55.8% - between 18 and 59 years old and 13.7% - aged 60 years and older. The literacy rate among residents over 15 years old was 84.6% [2] .
