The Semilla Movement ( Spanish: Movimiento Semilla ) is the center-left universal political party of Guatemala [1] .

Content
History
The movement was registered with the Supreme Electoral Tribunal on July 14, 2017, with Samuel Andres Perez Alvarez as its Secretary General. The party was founded after protests that led to the resignation of President Otto Perez Molina . It was officially recognized by the political party on November 21, 2018. The party defines itself as a political, democratic and pluralistic movement.
The party nominated its leader, former Attorney General Telma Aldanu, as a presidential candidate and entered into a coalition with two other center-left parties, Together for Guatemala and Libre (Free), in the 2019 election [2] [3] [4] . Following an investigation by Attorney General Maria Consuelo Porras and UN Anti-Corruption Commissioner Ivan Velazquez Gomez against the Secretary General Together for Guatemala due to possible anonymous financing of the elections, the coalition was suspended.
Semilla refers to universal parties that unite various political groups [5] [6] .
